Configuring the Windham Time Series Database on a Shared Network Drive

For Enterprise Users Only
Enterprise users may wish to configure the Windham Time Series database on a shared network drive to streamline maintenance and regulate a single data file instead of having multiple users maintain their databases separately.

Please note the following examples abstract certain system folder locations using the Windows XP operating system. For Vista / Windows 7 / custom corporate settings, the system default folders for all users and current users may vary. Please refer to your IT department.

Overview of Windham Time Series Database File and Folder Structure
The following describes the background to the Windham Time Series database file and folder structure.

  1. Default Install Location
    • The Windham Software installs the Windham Time Series database in
      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Windham Files\TimeSeries\tsdocument-cache.xml
    • Each time the Windham Software is installed or upgraded, this file is overwritten with the version distributed by the install kit

  2. Default User Location

    • Once installed, the Windham Software initializes (copies) the default file from (1) into the user specific My Documents folder
    • This allows individual users to maintain the Windham database separately from others on the same workstation
    • The default user location for this file is
      C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Documents\Windham Files\TimeSeries\tsdocument-cache.xml
    • This file will not be replaced or overwritten during any upgrades or re-installations with the install kit
    • When updating the Windham Time Series from the Internet (via Windham Software), the process will automatically update the tsdocument-cache.xml in this location

Configuring for a Shared Network Drive
Each user will be able to specify the use of either the default location of the Windham Time Series as described in (1) or specify a custom folder / shared drive that houses the commonly maintained Windham Database (2). To configure the Windham Time Series database on a shared network drive

  1. Select “Locate Windham Time Series” under the “Time Series” menu
  2. The following dialog should prompt
      LocateWindhamDatabaseFolder.png
  3. Select the second radio button
  4. Type or browse to a folder that contains a valid version of tsdocument-cache.xml
  5. Press OK

When updating the Windham Time Series from Internet (via Windham Software), the process will automatically update the tsdocument-cache.xml in the configured location.
